Kuapa Kokoo Cooperative Farmers and Marketing Union Limited (KKFU) – the largest Fairtrade cocoa farmers’ cooperative in Ghana successfully held its 22nd Annual Delegates Conference at the auditorium of Kumasi Polytechnic in Kumasi.

KKFU members since 1993 when the organization was established have been holding delegates conference annually. This is  when major decisions and resolutions are ratified and adopted. One of such important decision gave birth to the establishment of Divine Chocolate Limited during the 1998 ADC.

The three day program with the theme; “The Importance of SDGs on Smallholder Cocoa Farmers in Ghana, The KKFU Story!” was climaxed on the 15th of September, 2016.  Among the dignitaries that graced the occasion were; Barima Offe Okogyeasuo II (Kokofu Omanhene), Chief Nathaniel Nsarkoh (Country Director-MPA) Sophi Tranchell (MD – Divine Chocolate, UK), Richard Anstead (Country Director, TWIN).

Others were; KKFU president – Madam Fatima Ali, KKFU Executive Secretary – Appau Abrampah Mensah, members of the National Executive Council (NEC), Mr. Samuel Adimado (Newly appointed KKL MD), and three delegates each from the 57 Societies across the six KKFU operational regions in Ghana.

Numerous reports and address from the various dignitaries were delivered during the program. In her speech, Madam Fatima Ali assured members that the Union is in good standing with giant strides made during the past year. She mentioned some of the gains made as the meeting with the Millennium Promise Alliance Board Chairman, Jeffrey Sachs which led to the signing of a pact between the two entities on areas of Agro-business, Healthcare systems, Climate Change and Mitigation.

The Kuapa Kokoo president again cited the introduction of Cocoa Rehabilitation and Intensification Programme (CORIP) being implemented in Wassa Akropong and Dadieso in the Western region in collaboration with Twin Trading UK as one of the projects that will bring benefits to members.

The farmers received another pleasant news from Group CEO of Divine Chocolate Limited, Sophi Tranchell when she indicated to the gathering that both Divine UK and USA made a combined sales of £12.6 million and declared £280,000 profit.

According to Sophi Tranchell, the shareholders decided to disburse a profit dividend of £69,200 in addition to the annual preference share dividend of £56,908 and Kuapa Kokoo holding majority share of 44% was a proud recipient of £50,302 as its share for the year, 2015/16.
